Types of Steam Cleaners for Home and Commercial Use

Steam cleaners adapt this proven method of cleaning and sanitizing to various uses. From home steam cleaners to a jewelry steamer, there’s one for every need!

Dental Lab Steam Cleaner :

dental lab steam cleaner uses pressurized hot steam to clean appliances like crowns and dentures without using chemicals. They blast away residue, polishing compounds, wax, and adhesives without damaging the material itself. They also sanitize dental tools and work surfaces.

Jewelry Steamer :

Hot steam is excellent for cleaning precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum. It’s also ideal for hard gemstones like diamonds, rubies, and the like (avoid it on porous or heat-sensitive stones).  Steam safely melts away dirt, grime, and body oils.

Home Steam Cleaners :

Home steam cleaners work in so many ways. From deep cleaning floors, to ovens, bathroom grout, even some fabric and upholstery, a steam cleaner is versatile and chemical-free.  The continuous steam pressure emulsifies dirt and grease to be wiped away. It also sanitizes surfaces naturally.

Commercial Steam Cleaners :

Commercial steam cleaners can be used in many ways. Hotels sanitize bedding and carpeting, and clean tile and grout. Restaurants degrease ovens and hoods, and sanitize  prep areas and machinery. In healthcare, medical equipment, patient beds and more are deep-cleaned. Manufacturers clean mechanical equipment, while the automotive industry uses it for detailing.

Benefits of Using Steam Cleaners

Simple, pressurized hot steam is an effective, natural cleaning solution for multiple applications. Best of all, it does it without chemicals. Steam cleaners can safely be used on many surfaces and in many areas, from industrial kitchens to a kid’s bedroom.

  • Deep cleans: degreases a kitchen, dissolves soap scum, removes embedded dirt and stains from porous surfaces.
  • Neutralizes odors in carpet, mattresses, upholstery.
  • Removes allergens, from pet dander to dust mites.
  • Sanitizes: the high temperature eliminates mold, mildew, viruses, bacteria.

How to Choose the Right Steam Cleaner for Your Needs

Begin with its primary use: is it floors and large surfaces versus something smaller like detailing? What type of machine is best-suited for the task? Canister steam cleaners, for example, are very versatile, with attachments to handle multiple tasks.  Also, what kind of materials will it be used on?

  • The pressure (PSI) is a factor (more is needed for tough jobs);  the tank size will determine how long you can work without refilling.
  • What design will be easiest to handle for your cleaning jobs?

FAQs

What is a steam cleaner and how does it work? +

Water is heated inside a tank to create superheated steam. It’s directed through a nozzle or special attachment to clean and sanitize naturally. It emulsifies dirt and grease from numerous surfaces. It kills germs and bacteria, removes allergens and odors. Steam cleaners are available in different sizes for different needs.

Are steam cleaners safe for all types of surfaces? +

They’re safe to use on sealed surfaces, like stainless steel, tile and grout. They can be used on upholstery, mattresses, windows, and mirrors. Avoid using a steam cleaner on painted surfaces, unsealed hardwood, vinyl, leather, and porous materials like marble and limestone. Cold windows may also crack from steam heat.

How often should I use a steam cleaner? +

It depends on how much traffic or use an area sees. A high-traffic or high-use area should be steam-cleaned regularly (weekly) for maintenance, and especially if there are allergens present. Something like a commercial kitchen or a hotel carpet can benefit from a good steam cleaning every couple of months, depending on traffic and overall condition.

How long does it take for a steam cleaner to heat up? +

It depends on the size of the cleaner (especially the tank size; a larger one will take longer). The wattage power also influences the heating speed. In general, a smaller steam cleaner (like a handheld unit) will be ready in a few minutes, whereas something like a canister-style or industrial cleaner may need 10-15 minutes.
